The first working meeting of the Academic Council of the ESS-BiH research network was held in the premises of the CREDI Center in Sarajevo with the online presence of a number of members, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. The aim of the meeting was to agree on further activities in the work of the ESS-BiH network, and it was organized as part of the celebration of World Statistics Day.
During the meeting, the participants were introduced to the plan of activities for the implementation of the 10th round of European social survey (ESS), as well as the procedures and benefits of its implementation in BiH. In the second part of the meeting, dr. Goran Basic, director of the Institute for Social Research in Belgrade, shared his experiences in conducting ESS in Serbia, and its impact on the development of research infrastructure and its importance for Serbian society.
At the meeting, activities were agreed to support the member universities of the network in the form of organizing a series of trainings, webinars, workshops, and the possibility of preparing joint academic articles that will be sent for publication in international journals. It was also concluded that the ESS-BiH network can provide support and services to other institutions and members of the research community in order to further strengthen the capacity and infrastructure for conducting complex social research in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Members of the Academic Board of the ESS-BiH Network stressed the need to continue to promote ESS research in academia and society, as well as to use its results to make evidence-based policies and decisions.
